Greg joined Callan in 1988 and now leads the firm as chief executive and oversees all areas of research.
Gregory C. Allen is Callan’s chief executive officer and chief research officer. He oversees the firm’s fund sponsor consulting, trust advisory, database, client report services, operations, and all research and education groups, including global manager research, alternative investment research, capital markets research, and the Callan Institute.
Greg is a member of the Callan Management Committee and Institute Advisory Committee, as well as the Investment Committee, which oversees all of Callan’s discretionary multi-manager solutions. He is also a member of the Callan Board of Directors and is a shareholder of the firm. As executive sponsor of Callan’s diversity, equity and belonging (DEB) program, Greg oversees the execution of the DEB strategy and initiatives led by the DEB Champion and DEB Council.
Greg joined Callan’s San Francisco office in 1988 as an analyst where he focused on capital market research, asset allocation and liability analysis, and manager structure analysis. In 1993, he took over Callan’s Operations and Capital Markets Research groups where he oversaw the complete redesign and implementation of Callan’s database management and performance measurement systems. In 2000, Greg was promoted to director of research, and in 2007 was promoted to president. He took on the CEO role for the firm in 2017.
Greg earned an MS in applied economics and a BA in economics from the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is a frequent speaker on the institutional investment process, and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and other industry publications on investment-related topics.
